Is it Time to Burn the Chair?

The US CDC is looking into research claiming that sitting for long hours is bad for our health. This has an impact on business because, if true, then companies might be required to swap out their traditional desks and chairs for standing desks or desk treadmills.

I think that there is enough research today, without worrying about the financial impact of wealthy companies, for us to individually make the switch to standing / treadmill desks. I made the switch when I moved to Fujisawa and setup my home office. Here I have a tall standing desk and a tall barstool for when I want to rest a bit. So I can spend most of my day standing and have an easy option to rest my legs if I need to. The barstool is a good option because it isn’t intended for long-term sitting and doesn’t have a backrest.

From the research available, indicators suggest more benefit than harm from using sit-stand desks as interventions.
