hospital in Okinawa Japan

My mother came to visit us in Okinawa for 3 months. Unfortunately, the day before Thanksgiving, she fell & broke her hip. She was in Nakagami Hospital for 3 weeks.

They took excellent care of her. The staff was very respectful. They would always squat down and look up at the patient while speaking with them. Every other day, each patient received a thorough bath. The meals were always delivered hot.

Upon discharge, two men from the Physical Therapy Department followed us home. They wanted to ensure that my mother made it safely up two flights of stairs and trained us how to help her in & out of her bed/bathroom. We are so grateful for the wonderful care she received while here in Okinawa.

I am glad that your mother is doing well. She looks great. I wish her to continue good recovery.
Your description of after-hospital care reassures what Yukiyo-san explained the other day while discussing the locomotive syndrome. She said that Physical Therapists would assess the layout of patient’s home to make sure their safety.
I might add that those excellent care did not exist 20 or 30 years ago in Japan (Your mom is lucky!).

p.s. I thank you for your scholastic response to my question regarding the word “hapa.”
