One thing I love about the Washington D.C. area is the cultural diversity. For example, I was invited to a festival on Sunday that celebrated Pakistan’s independence day. The Southeast Asian country was a former British colony until 1947 when the colony was released from British control and divided into the two countries of Pakistan and India. I had a great time learning about its history and enjoying the delicious food. There were clothing vendors everywhere, so I took advantage and bought a semi-traditional shirt. I say semi because it’s made to look like a traditional Pakistani shirt but can be worn with jeans. They also had music and dancers that my daughter and I enjoyed watching perform even if we couldn’t understand what they were saying. This festival really raised my interest to find more festivals of different cultures to attend.
