Alzheimer’s

What do we know about Alzheimer’s? One of my patients has Alzheimer’s, a disease I didn’t know much about until I met him. Alzheimer’s is a deadly disease taking the lives of 22,000 people annually. It is the 6th leading cause of death in America.

The disease comes upon a person subtly and undetected and signs aren’t usually seen until the disease has set in. People of all ages can have this disease and some today don’t even know they have it.

My patient is now in the final stage of Alzheimer’s. He can walk, but, sometimes very slowly. He can’t speak nor does he have total control of his body. He is no longer use to his environment. There are days when he is upbeat and will smile and there are days when he looks lost and confused and can’t seem to stay on his feet very long. It is getting harder to work with him as I have to watch him deteriorate. And it won’t get any better. At this stage in his disease, I would like to keep you posted as there is much to learn about this time to his end.
