Christmas Joy

Every Christmas is usually the same routine. My husband buys gifts for his nieces while I buy gifts for my brothers and sisters. I have a pretty big family, and buying my sibilings gifts is much easier because there are simply too many children on my side of the family for whom to shop. This year, however, is different. As I was watching my husband once again buy gifts for his nieces, I noticed the smile on his face at trying to figure out what would delight the girls. Then I remembered their joyus faces looking up at him when they opened his presents during past years. It was then that I decided I wanted to bring joy to my nieces and nephews the same way he does to his. Sure my nieces and nephews get presents from their parents and other aunts and uncles, but not from me. I’m always the aunt who comes from far away once a year to watch them open gifts other people gave them. Not this year. This year I will bring each of them something. It will be something small, but something I know they’ll like. I want them to know that I too was thinking of them.
