Hamada-Shi

I received my assignment location. I will be placed in Hamada-Shi, which is a beautiful port city on the southwestern side of Japan in the 7th district of Shimane prefecture;) There are beaches along the coast, ski resorts a few hours away in the mountains, and lots of hot-springs. The info on their website is very helpful and I really like their city flag. I do not know what grade I am teaching, but will keep people posted. Aloha!

That’s awesome! Whenever I mention that I was born in Shimane-ken, people seem very impressed. I think it is because Shimane-ken is situated in Ura-Nihon and because of Izumo Taisha, the region is rather mysterious to many Japanese. The perception may have changed.

Yoko-san, I just returned from the Consulate of Japan pre-departure reception. The perception has not changed, hahaha. When other JETS and Japanese found out I was goin to Shimane, they said they had never been there, but the impression they gave was that it was still quite mystical;) I leave tomorrow and to have a great time in Japan. I will have to keep you posted on my thoughts of the region.
    Aloha
