Out Sick

I had a terrible week last week.  I came down with some kind of virus.  It all began on Monday with a minor sore throat.  On Tuesday my whole body was aching as if I had done a marathon of push-ups and situps the night before.  My head was pounding.  I probably should have gone to the clinic but went to work instead.  I ended up leaving early because I couldn’t concentrate on anything except trying to keep my body from shivering. As it turns out, my shivering was due to a 101.4 degree fever, which went up to 102 in the span of an hour.  My poor husband was watching over me the whole night. On Wednesday I decided to go to the doctor. I felt better and didn’t want to go.  My husband thought I should double check. The visit turned into a waste of time as the only thing the doctor prescribed me was gargle medicine. Thursday I began to feel the soreness all over again though more mild than before.  A new symptom appeared—my voice became very hoarse. Friday I tried to go to work but left early again since my condition was not getting any better and for fear of infecting others.  Friday night the dreaded coughing began and has not gone away. The coughing kept me awake during the weekend and Monday night despite the recently acquired humidifier at my bedside.  The waking up in the middle of the night choking finally got me to return to the doctor today hoping to get some stronger stuff the second time around.  I did.  The doctor said it’s some kind of virus going around the island.   It’s suppose to last two weeks.  Whatever it is I hope it goes away soon.  I want to return to my normal activities and get a good night’s sleep.
