Co-captains

My wife, Yoko, takes morning walks regularly along the paved trails that interconnect all parts of Omaha, Nebraska. She has written about these trails in previous blogs, with pictures, that you might have seen. Her excursions usually take her to one pause marked by a large park that has ponds, playground equipment and a large playing field for baseball and soccer. One day, camera in hand, she spotted a father-son baseball team that was warming up. Since the “older” boys, (the fathers) were in the field, “warming up” the bases, the younger boys were politely waiting, standing around, looking mature, sophisticated and very much more in the know than their fathers. Three boys, in particular, all in uniform, with shirts only partly tucked in , as is the fashion, seemed to be discussing strategy (probably about girls, and not baseball!) . Recognizing that this would make a fine painting, Yoko took a picture and showed it to me later that day. The next day, I took the printed image to my studio and created the oil painting that accompanies this paragaph. It was fun to do, and nice to know that, in Yoko, I have a roving reporter with an eye for a good painting! I hope you like it.
