Fast Food

Michiko asked me to post something that I have cut back on in reference to Sam’s post on being healthy. I have not really cut back on using less sugar or salt etc…, but I have almost completely stopped eating Fast Food. Even though I have super busy schedule, I find that if I get a quick bite at a Fast Food joint, then it really does not give me the fuel that I need to carry me on throughout my day. It will feel me up for a moment, but later I feel terrible. One thing that I have been striving for in my diet is quality over quanity. I try to eat fresh goods from fish to vegtables, this I feel does my difference in my health.

Good for you. Let me know how this works out for you. I know that trying to limit any type of food we have grown accustom to is difficult.

In regards to the sugar thing. This is something I have been struggling with for some time. Sugar and caffeine. It simply comes down to quality of life. I plan on living as long as I can, healthy and disease free. So I need all the help I can get.

Simply put: I am cheap. I don’t like spending my life working all day and I don’t like wasting money on health care. I want to be in a situation where my health care expenses are at a minimum. Especially when I am older and will no longer be in the situation to really take care of myself like I am able to now. This is part of the reason I became a vegan.

What incited my new drive to rid my life from sugar has to do with this recent study from the British Journal of Dermatology. They discovered that sugars, and anything that breaks down to glucose, deteriorates collagen and elastin. Basically makes your skin age. That was enough for me to give sugar the boot once and for all. I like my skin. I like it not being wrinkled. 😉

For me this means any product with added sugar. Fruits and grains are still on my menu even though they also break down to glucose. They are natural and come loaded with nutrients. Refined sugar is not.

In the end, this is really about avoiding as much pain and suffering and as many medical expenses that I can. Call me selfish.

You are selfish! There I called you it. Wow, that is pretty intense and I see where you are coming from. However, I really am not anywhere close to that level of thinking, but I commend you in your efforts. がんばって サム
