My driving experience in Japan

This is my fifth day in Japan. So far I have spent time in Hakone, Tokyo, and Kanagawa. Its been an exhausting trip but it is well worth it. Exhausting because this time I rented a car in Japan and we’ve been doing a lot of driving in the country. Driving in Japan is not as bad as I thought it was going to be, but driving in Tokyo can be a bit stressful. There is just so much traffic there and in some areas the roads are really narrow – a lot more narrower than Hawaii. Hence, a lot of the cars there are small too. As for the traffic, sometimes I think Hawaii’s traffic is just as bad. The drivers in Japan seem to be a bit more courteous too. Since I am unfamiliar with the area I had a tendency to drive slow – but even so, I haven’t gotten honked yet. I am not sure if Hawaii drivers are as nice, but we do have more aloha spirit than the mainland I think. Another interesting facet of the driving experience in Japan is the use of GPS. According to my girlfriend and from what I’ve seen, most of the cars(that I’ve seen in Tokyo) have a GPS system. Without it I don’t think I would have been able to get around Japan since the roads are not as clearly marked as in America.
But anyway….sorry Michiko I didn’t bring my usb cable so I am not able to upload pictures yet. I will upload them when I come back.
