Although I am not working and receiving a paycheck. I am now able to be actively involved in the community, which is a greater payoff to me. I am part of three different clubs as talked about before. United Nations Club, Amnesty International and the Debate Society. We have many different events to attend throughout the week, which keeps me pretty busy. For Amnesty International we have just started a project for a campaign and education against violence in Hawaii. We are in the early stages, but are inspired to stand up and speak out against the recent deaths of two women, one tourist in Waikiki, and one local woman near Kamehameha housing. Both deaths had witnesses, but no one spoke up or reported the incident till it was too late. Why? Are we too conditioned to this sort of thing happening around us? Do we not want to get in other peoples business? Some ideas we have generated, but have not acted on just yet. We would like to get in touch with police officers, as what to correctly do in this situation, writing letters to our politicians on creating a marketing or education campaign against such things. Don’t want this to be to long here, but if you have any ideas or want to help, please let me know.
Thanks, David
