the annual Honolulu Marathon

Last week Sunday, Punahou’s Japanese 4 class got together to help out in the annual Honolulu Marathon. Our goal this year is to spcifically learn about Japanese culture and help the Japanese community. Although the Mrathon is based in Hawaii, it is blessed with a wave of Japanese participants. Our Job was to collect the Nihonjin’s extra baggage, to allow them to run the race free of their belongings. And as they returned, we returned each runner’s bags. The numbers went from 1 to 31 thousand and something. This goes to show how one event can bring a lot of people together to just go out, run hard, and have fun. We didnt get to talk to the Nihonjin that much, but each time I got to I was meet with a friendly smile. While it was hard work, I did enjoy the company off all my friends from school and from the race! It felt good to be able to serve my community.
