Yesterday I went to the Junior Prom from Punahou school. I heard it is not a Japanese thing to have something like this so let me explain. For prom, it is formal that a guy asks a girl to go, so that everyone will have a partner to be with. It is a time where you can socialize with your friends, enjoy food together, and dance. Its a really fun experience, especially if you have someone to share it with. Most people find someone to go with, but some people who either do not find a partner or dont want to come sometimes just dont come. You don’t really need a partner for an occasion like this, but it really helps. The dress is pretty formal, with the girls in dresses and the boys in ties. We took a lot of pictures too, definately the most I have ever taken in one night. It started at school around 5, then we took a bus to the Ihilani hotel, had the function there, bused back to school, and by that time it was 11. I was pretty tired after that. But was all worth it.
