Since I have been working at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse I have developed some knowledge of wine. It has just naturally come along with the job, because I am in an environment that is surrounded by wine. Nightly we are given glasses of wine to taste at the bar or by customers who order bottles and want to share the taste with us. After ten months of working at Ruth’s divided by 20 shifts a month, that soon adds up to a lot of glasses of wine. I am a firm believer in studying things hands on. If I were to just read about wine and the characteristics of its content that is fine, but by no means can it stand up to the actual experience of tasting it personally. I think same train of thought can be applied to language. If you read about what your supposed to say in another country, by no means does it stand up to the actual experience of having to actually ask someone for example what time is it in their native tongue. Plus this is just a much more fun way of studying things, at least for me it is!
