一石二鳥


いっせきにちょう


一つの石で二羽の鳥を撃ち落とすという意味から、
一つの事をして、二つの成果を得るというたとえ。

ひとつのいしでにわのとりをうちおとすといういみから、
ひとつのことをして、ふたつのせいかをえるというたとえ。


To kill two birds with one stone.

    We use this phrase a lot in America, for example if I wanted to get exercise but I had to do shopping at the market. I could jog to the market, and when I get there I can do my shopping. Two things are accomplished in getting exercise (by jogging to the market) and getting my shopping done.
