猿の尻笑い
さる の しりわらい
自分のお尻も赤いのにそれを忘れて、
他の猿のお尻の赤いことを笑います。
即ち、自分のことを棚にあげ、人の欠点を笑うことです。
じぶんのおしりもあかいのにそれをわすれて、
ほかのさるのおしりのあかいことをわらいます。
すなわち、じぶんのことをたなにあげ、ひとのけってんをわらうことです。
“Saru no shiri warai” means a monkey laughing at another monkey’s butt. A monkey might laugh at another monkey’s butt because it is red, while forgetting that his own butt is red. It refers to someone who criticizes someone else without realizing that he has the same fault. This is like, “the pot calling the kettle black” in English.
I really like this idiom and feel that it could be useful in a lot of different situations. For example when someone is talking bad about another person, but doesn’t reconize their own faults. This would be a useful time to use the quote.

I agree with this phrase too, I don’t like to criticize or laugh at somebody because I too may have that same fault. Unfortunately there are a lot of ignorant people in the world. And thus people need to be reminded of this.
