This is about a taxi ride in Thailand. The cab driver talked to me about Buddhism. (Thailand is 90% Buddhist) The main focus of the conversation was the difference between Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism. In Buddhism, there is no god to save the individual. There is no one to help you get to heaven after you die. The teachings of Buddhism advise us to look to ourselves. It is explained as karma such that, if you do good things it is good, but if you do bad things, bad things will come back to you. If you do a bad thing, even if you repent, the bad thing will not go away. Rather than that, it is taught that you should do many good things (to make up for it). By visiting different countries, you can see many things. In Hawaii, I was able to learn a little about Christianity. Sure enough I thought, when asked about religion in a foreign country, how much can I say? I think that because Japanese people are Buddhist, Shinto, and atheists, in order to discuss their merits, we need to learn more about other religions.
