I went to Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. It was really great. I particularly enjoyed Cambodia. It was really rural, and I was shocked at how completely different their lifestyle is compared to Japan’s. I noticed that in Japan there are a lot of things that are not necessary.

The people of Cambodia are all very gentle, kind and warm-hearted. However, I felt sad because when I went way into the countryside they could not speak Japanese or English so I couldn’t communicate. The market people and the bike taxi people could understand a little Japanese and were good at English so I could speak to them, but I think If we could speak better English, we could have had more meaningful conversations. They spoke English very well, so I asked them how long they studied English; they said one year. When I told them I studied for six years in school, they laughed at me!

It occurred to me that when you study English you don’t need a pencil and paper. Up till then, when I started to study English I would get out a pencil and paper, but I think I will try to change the was I study from now on. On this trip my feelings of wanting to speak English have become stronger!
 
 
タイ、カンボジア、ベトナムへ行ってきました。すっごく良かったです。特に、カンボジアが良かったです。すっごい田舎で、日本の生活とは全く違う生活で衝撃を受けました。日本には無駄な物が多いことに気付きました。

カンボジア人は穏やかで親切で暖かい人ばかりでした！でも、田舎の方に行くと英語も日本語も通じなくて会話ができず悲しかったです。バイクタクシーや市場にいる人は日本語も少し話せるし、英語は達者なので話ができました。でも、もっと私たちに英語力があれば、もっといろんな会話ができたと思います。英語がとても上手なので何年勉強しているのかと聞くと、一年と言っていました。私は中学、高校の六年と答えると笑われました。

私は、英語の勉強に紙と鉛筆は要らないと思いました。今まで私は英語を『勉強』しようとする時、紙と鉛筆を用意していましたが、これからは勉強のやり方を変えてみようかと思います。旅行に行って、英語が話せるようになりたいと思う気持ちが強くなりました。
