Collaborative Haiku Poem – ハウスレン

like an arrow
dash under leaf to leaf
house wren

(Yoko version)
矢の如し葉陰を走るハウスレン
やのごとし はかげ を はしる ハウスレン

singing birds
run with lightning speed
from leaf to leaf

(Michiko version)
葉から葉へ鳥の歌姫駆け巡る
はから はへ とり の うたひめ かけめぐる

The House Wren is a smaller version of the Mejiro (a white-eye). The “big” singing voice of this small bird heralds the beginning of the warm season. It is fun to catch a glimpse of the bird dashing from under one leaf to another among the Hosta bushes.

 ハウスレン House Wren(和名 みそさざい)はメジロを一回り小さくしたような鳥です。小さに体に似わわぬ大きな鳴き声の持主で、暖かい季節の到来を告げます。尾をぴんと挙げ、庭に茂るホスタの葉陰から次のホスタの葉陰へと、目も止まらぬ速さで移動する姿を目撃するのは楽しみです。
