Collaborative Haiku Poem – サルビア

salvia
loved by humming birds
all over the garden

ハンミーの好きなサルビア一面に
ハンミー の　すきな サルビア　いちめんに

Hummies indicate both hummingbirds and hummingbird moths. While the main habitat of hummingbirds is the area along the east coast, the bird are also seen in the central plain. Their habitat may spread toward west if they can find enough food. This year, 48 salvias and 8 meadow sage salvias are planted in several areas in the yard for easier detection by hummingbirds. Then, it got cold again. To make sure that there would be enough flowers, forty more salvias were planted.

　ハンミーとはハミングバード（hummingbird)とハミングモス（hummingbird moth)の両者を指します。ハミングバードは東海岸地帯が主たる生息地ですが、時たまここ中央平原でも見かけます。食べ物さえあれば生息地が広がるのではと密かに期待しています。昨年、よく育ったサルビアにハンミーがやって来ましたので、勇気百倍、今年も！と計４８本のサルビアと加えてセージサルビア（meadow sage salvia)８本を、ハンミーが探知しやすいようにと庭のあちこちに植えてみました。この後、うすら寒い日が続きましたので、念の為サルビアをもう４０本植えました。
