For me, one of the nicest landmarks in the Waikiki area is Ala Moana Park. The park is very big and has a beach that rivals Waikiki beach. In the park is an area called Magic Island. It is called magic because from the air it looks like an island but it is because of the surrounding Ala Wai harbor that it looks like an island. The whole park was originally supposed to be hotels and condominiums in the 1950’s but the company that was going to build it went out of business and the City and County of Honolulu purchased it and decided to make it a park instead. Many TV shows and commercials are shot there and it is a signature for the Waikiki area.

　私にとって、ワイキキ地区の最もわかりやすいランドマークは、アラモアナ公園です。この公園は非常に広く、公園にあるビーチは、ワイキキビーチのライバルだと思います。公園の中にはマジックアイランドと呼ばれる場所があります。空から見ると島のように見えるので「マジック」と呼ばれます。島のように見えるのは、アラワイハーバーに囲まれているためです。この公園は、１９５０年代、元々、ホテルやコンドミニアムを作る予定でしたが、会社が潰れました。そこで、ホノルル市と郡が購入し、代わりに公園にすることにしました。この公園でよくテレビ番組やコマーシャルが撮影されます。ワイキキ地区の顔です。
