First thing you see when you open the old turn –of -the century door is licorice candies filling the shelves that spread throughout the large store in a semicircular form.

As the name “Licorice International” suggests, the store sells licorice from all over the world: Dutch Kokindjes, Australian Licorice Twists, English Pontefract Cakes, Sweet Finnish, and many more. While I was bewildered by selection, regular customers came and bought their favorites.

Finally, at the store attendant’s advice, I bought a package called “Mini International Sampler” made up licorice from four countries and a bag of red raspberry twists.

I hope, at the next visit to Lincoln, Nebraska, I can investigate all the items in the store.

前世紀製と思われる重たいドアーを開けてすぐに目に入るのは、広い店内をぐるりと半円形に広がった棚にぎっしりと詰まったリコリッシュキャンディー・・・

ネブラスカ州都リンカーンのヘイマーケットにあるこのキャンディー店は Licorice International（登録名）の名の通り世界各国からのリコリッシュを取り扱っています。アメリカ製はもとよりオーストラリア製、オランダ製、イギリス製、フィンランド製と、予想をはるかに上回る商品の数にどこから手をつけたものかと戸惑っている間にも、次々にやってくる顧客は迷うことなくお好みのリコリッシュを購入しています。

結局、店員さんに勧められて４カ国からのリコリッシュを集めたミニサンプラーと細長く捻った形の ラスベリー味のリコリッシュを買いました。次回は, 店内にある全てのリコリッシュキャンディーを探索したいものです。
