Haiku Poem – ハワイの冬

whispering trade winds
gentle gliding whales
rainbows dot the sky

かぜわたる はねるくじらに にじのそら

The winter season in Hawaii brings about some very special changes not seen in the other seasons. The trade winds become very powerful, gusting from the North and North East often bringing a lot of rain and great delight for the surfers and kite surfers. The whales also begin coming in December which heralds the coming of winter and rainbows are so numerous that for those of us who live in Hawaii it is so common that we sometimes take them for granted. These all announce that the winter season has arrived.

Although whales are seen everyday on the surface, underwater it is very rare. The picture of this whale underwater is the first time in three years that one has been seen from inside the submarine!
